Crete consists of four regions; Chania in the west, Rethymno, Iraklio in the center and also the capital of the island, and to the east the Lassithi Plateau. In general, the northern shores of Crete are developed for tourism, and some of them full-blown package tourism traps. If you are looking to discover the culture of Greece, some of these places aren't for you. But fear not, Crete is big and varied and there are many beautiful spots to discover.
